Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Ever play "Marco Polo" in a swimming pool? Ever play it when there are about 50 other (non-playing) people in the pool with you? It makes it pretty hard to find "Polo" with all the other people in the way. While that might make the game fun and more challenging, when it comes to searches on the web, you want the exact opposite. When a web user yells out "Marco" on Google, you're "Polo" and you want to be one of the first the user finds.
This is where search enginge optimization comes in.
You may have the coolest and most informative website out there for a specific product but when it comes to people finding you in a search engine query - looks don't matter. And in this case personality doesn't matter either. Search engines can't see any of that.
While bits and pieces of how search results show up on sites like Google and Yahoo may still be mysterious, there is a science to it. How you structure your content, the words you use, the title of your pages, how you 'tag' things like pictures and links, among many other options directly affect how you rank in search results. That information is what search engines 'see'. And what they see (or don't see) will determine if someone doing an internet search sees your site.
Whether we are building a new site for you or working with you on your existing site, we will evaluate the current SEO state of your website, assess your goals, measure your competition, and put a plan in place to begin improving your SEO. It's just that simple. And at the same time, not completely that simple.
A little SEO can go a long way. A planned out SEO strategy and implementation can go even further. Let us help you determine what you need. Contact us now for an SEO analysis of your website.
More to know about SEO
While we'd like to promise everyone of our clients the #1 spot on Google for searches using their keywords, we realize we can't do that. But we will do everything we can to get you as close as possible. That's our commitment. But you must realize a couple of things about SEO:
It's not overnight: Just because we make improvments to your site, it doesn't mean your rank will go up overnight. It could take several days or even weeks before search crawlers fully see all improvements. Now that we've said that, we can also say that we have seen a client improve in ranking from page 270 in Google to page 2 in Google virtually overnight (so anything is possible).
It's not necessarily permanent: As your website's rank improves it may not last. Your competitors may also be working on the SEO of their sites. A commitment needs to be made to keep content fresh and updated (e.g. using blogs and announcements). Using other tools such as social media, newsletters, and link building are also key in long-term seo maintenance.
Buyer Beware: While there are some very legitimate companies out there that are SEO experts, some companies make may do more damage that good. Some say they will submit your site to dozens, if not hundreds, of other sites in a link building campaign stating that it will improve your SEO and rank. While having people link to your site is key to SEO, having links on the wrong type of sites can actually hurt your ranking.
